Kestrel has been training her whole life to become The Moons champion for the Tarot Trials. She grew up in the dregs, fighting not only to provide for her self but the littles she’s found and taken in as her family. Kestrel will do anything to keep the ones she cares about safe, even if that means entering the Tarot Trials to give a voice to the voiceless. However, that isn’t her only reason for joining; Kestrel is determined to find out what really happened to her mother, why she died at Deaths hand, why she was accused of treason.

If Kestrel can become The Moons Champion, Join the Tarot Trials, and then survive the trials; she will become one of the five ruling Cinque. The group of allies that had a direct hand in the death of her mother and also makes the life of all those in the dregs difficult to say the least. Her goal is to make it into the Cinque, get her answers, and eliminate those who killed her mother- the previous champion of The Moon.

First id like to say that Lindsey Dorcus did an absolutely FANTASTIC job of narrating and I have already been searching for more books narrated by her. Each character had their own personality, voice, and vibe. I was immediately drawn into each scene and connected with the characters.

Now, Id like to bow down at the feet of Katee Robert. Ive been looking forward to this book since she started teasing it , what feels like a lifetime ago. With that being said, when i start to look forward to a book as much as this one, I hype myself up a bit more than i should and get let down. HOWEVER, this book hit all the right boxes for me. I loved this so much. I am still thinking about the ending. I have so many theories and will keep to my promise of not spoiling books so i wont spoil this for anyone, but when other people dive in to this world I will have to gather with them and discuss what I think is happening next and what I think was happening behind the scenes during the trials.

This world building is masterfully done. The character creation and development is on another level. The plot was just what I was looking for it had action, intrigue, mystery, and just the right amount of romantic tension to make you yearn for more.

This was a FIVE STAR read from me and I can not wait for the next book.
