When a new , some what intense, and morally questionable coach decides that Japan needs an overhaul of their soccer program, things get interesting. Once invitations go out to players across the country , they all gather at a sports complex called blue lock. This is a high tech arena where the players are housed , train and compete to become Japan’s next striker.

This is a mixture of squid games and all the hype of the world cup combined in to an action packed manga with just the right amount of drama and turmoil to keep it interesting. The energy of the characters and the plot keeps you reading through at a pretty quick pace. This quickly became a single sit down read. The positive side to it being the first three volumes is you get a good chunk of the start of the story without feeling like your questioning what’s going on.

I hadnt watched the anime before reading this so I didn’t have any background before going in. Im also not someone who gravitates to sports centered anime or manga frequently. Im glad I did take the chance on this not only was it a good break from my usual reads, it opened up a new genre of both manga and anime. Ill definitely be reading more and sit down and enjoy the anime as well.
