Game of Rogues

Julie Ann Long

Gabriel Marchand is known as a dangerous rouge. Once an orphan living in the squalor of St. Giles he worked his way up to being the owner of the exclusive gaming hell Lucifers Fall. Those who come across them either fear him or want to be him. However, when Hogarth Woodville, a newly appointed Earl gables away his inheritance, he meets some one that is neither impressed by him nor is scared to face him.

Guinevere Woodville, the eldest sister to Hogarth has been raising her younger siblings for the last eight years. After their parents passed away due to an accident, Ginniy took on the role of their caretaker, and she takes this role very seriously. She will let nothing or no one get in her way of keeping her promises to her mother.

Marchand offers Ginny a single night with him in his bed to erase part of her brothers debt. She declined the offer as that is not something a lady would dare do. However, the offer sparks something in her that makes her realize she may not be the noble lady that shes been raised to be. With the offer declined Ginny starts on another plan to get her family inheritance back. Although, as fates have it that meeting in the office at Lucifers Fall was not the end of her interactions with Gabriel Marchand.

Game of Rogues is a historical romance full of some very popular tropes such as age gap romance, class differences, forced proximity, and one of my favorites; partners in crime.

Justine Eyre does a wonderful job of narrating, very much with the tone of a noble lady in London. The only note id have on the audio book itself – not the narration is that when chapters change and were following a different character at times it takes a moment to know who we are following as its not stated at the start ( ex. Ch One – Ginny ). I will be listening to more stories narrated by Justine Eyre in the future.

Going into this I wasn’t aware that this was in an interconnected series. With that being said, at no point was I lost or confused. I didn’t feel like there was any missing information for this story.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story. I will be looking forward to reading more books written by Julie Anne Long.

Thank you NetGalley and Harper Adult Audio for the ALC.
