WolfWorm

“I saw the devil in these woods.”

Sonia is a scientific illustrator. She used to work closely with her father, until his passing. Since then, she has been working as an arts teacher at a school for girls. That is until she gets an opportunity to work for Dr. Halder, illustrating his abundance of insects. Sonia jumps at the opportunity and makes her way to North Carolina, where she will move into the Halder manor house and get back to the type of work that she dreams of, albeit she is no longer painting the flora she encounters, bugs can’t be that different, can they?

From the moment Sonia arrives at the station, she is made aware that there is something lurking in the woods and that this town may not be as quiet and quaint as she was led to believe. Shes also getting the impression her new employer may not be well liked around town.

It takes no time at all for Sonia to encounter the dark happenings in the woods. With every answer comes more questions. Sonia starts to really wonder what happened to the previous illustrator and what is going on with all these animals acting so weird? Most of all what is a blood theif?

Sonia gains a group of trusty friends in this unfamiliar and creepy place. Once she starts asking the right questions, and remembering shes a naturalist, she starts getting the answers shes looking for. Although, these answers are not ones she likes. Will she become the next horror story or will she be able to finally end it all….

WolfWorm is dark gothic fiction, I will give a fair warning to those who jump in to this book, if you are squeamish about bugs, this will not land well with your heebie jeebies. Some of the more discriptive parts gave me goosebumps from the ick. However, thats also the point, so…good job!

I listened to the audio book, and the narrator does suck an outstanding job. You feel in the story. The personalities of each character really shine. You also feel the changes in the characters as the plot moves.

The overall story has such a cool vibe. Its dark and twisted. Smart and artistic. It is everything you expect and so much more from a T. Kingfisher book!

Thank you Macmillan Audio , Tor Nightfire, and NetGalley for the ALC
