“I’m bulletproof, b*tch.”
Briar Thornton has been on the run from her ex. One day she receives a call from her uncles estate attorney, informing her of his passing. Now Briar is making her way to a small town in the middle of no where Montana called Bane Falls. She would prefer to be on her way out of the country, but she needs the one thing she does not have, money. Briar hopes that she can get in and out of Bane Falls quickly, staying just long enough to fix up the farm to sell and get out of there.
She expects a small, run down farm. She does not expect to get there to find some one casing the house. She turns away quickly and makes her way to a diner, where she hopes she has cell signal and can call the police to inform them that some one is at her newly acquired property. She does not get cell service, and she soon finds out that the police station shuts down at 8pm, and its well past that.
Briar decides to camp out at the diner get some food, and hope that when she returns to the farm, they are gone. This is when she meets a group of men that are handsome and some what rowdy. The moment she decides to sit and talk with them, is the same moment her entire stay in Bane Falls is changed.
Enter Roman Syxx, a broody, handsome, cold, and calculated Dark Forces Lieutenant. He is the leader of Briars new found friends, and he is not happy that they are entertaining some one new. They are on a mission, and he will not be distracted – he will not risk a mission for anyone, not even a pretty someone.
This stand alone dark military romance follows the Icarus squad and their mission in Bane Falls and Briar who is running from her past and discovering what her future holds.
There is one big overall plot with some mini sub plots going on. Pacing is a bit slower at the starts and starts to speed up about 2/3rds of the way through. I love the tension between our FMC and MMC and the banter they bring as well. I know this is a stand alone, however with the ending I am really hoping we get to see what happens with Bane Falls and to Icarus Squad. There were a few spots I feel like needed a little more follow through, but It also feels like they could have also left those spots open for a spin off from the original story line.
I really hope we get more Dark Forces books !
