Kate King
Odessa Ashwater, is the sister of the now king of Ellender. However she wasn’t always. Odessa is the daughter of a fae father and a siren mother. When she was young, her mother returned to the ocean and her father being bewitched by her mother was soon to follow her , causing his early death by drowning. After her father passed, she was sent to live with her Aunt and Her cousin.
Odessa is well aware that when a man loves a siren it will either cause his death or drive them to obsession that eventually becomes insanity. However, she still yearns for a young prince she meets the day she goes to live with her cousin. She does not think that she will ever see him after that day, but as the fates have it she sees him many years later when the court goes to Hydratta.
When Odessa sees Prince Kastian, she tries to stay away, however her heart draws her close to him. Until she has to make the choice to save him and have him forget her or let him drown.
More than a century passes by, and Kastian shows back up in her life (read book one of enchanted legacies: A Thorn in Every Heart). However, he has no memory of Odessa.
After the Events in A Thorn in Every Heart, Daemon and Alix are settling in to their roles and bringing big changes to Ellender. An enemy from Kastians past is requesting to marry Odessa. She agrees to go and meet with him to form an alliance or at least gain some information for Ellender, things take a wrong and she is barely keeping her head above water (pun intended), there is one person who can save her, the same person shes trying to keep at an arms length.
A Storm in Every Heart is a beautifully written reimagining of both of The Little Mermaid and The Princess Bride. With a book being marketed as a reimagining of one of my all time favorite books (The Princess Bride) I was worried it wouldn’t live up to the hope i had for it. I’m happy to say, that it really does. The blending of the two stories was done tastefully without leaning heavily on either story for the characters or the plot.
This is a dual POV, where you can truly connect with the characters, the world, and the over all plot. It switches between present day and in the past, however it is written to were following not only the dual POV but the changes from childhood to adulthood in a way where you get the best sense of the plot progression and character development.
This was another wonderful retelling from Kate King, and I cant wait to see what’s instore for the rest of the Ellender Crew, and what the future holds for Dessa and Kas.
Just a reminder, even though this is a fairytale retelling, this is not a children’s book.
