K.M. Moronova
Cameron is a man with a dark and bloody past. As he works with the dark forces his red ledger keeps getting longer and longer. This is somewhat due to his inability to keep his partners alive. Cameron has earned his code name, Mori. Most believe it to mean to die, however Cameron says to him it means to conquer. Now he’s hoping to conquer this next task set by him by the head of the dark forces, he must not kill his next partner.
Emery is the lucky new partner to be. One day she’s sitting in jail waiting on her trial. She wouldn’t even be sitting in jail if her father didn’t throw her under the bus to save himself and the rest of his operation. She was her dads executioner, and now she’s biding time till her death sentence, or so she thought. One night she was taken from her cell and thrown on a train full of men in military uniforms, but not ones she’s seen before, these were black camo uniforms, and she has no idea what is going on.
Emery gets thrown into the dark forces, her first task is to not die before the trials, and then not die during the trials. This would be so much easier if she wasn’t the new partner of Cameron , who she comes to find out may be her biggest challenge of them all. Not only because he has a blood lust like no other, Not even because he’s all jacked up on experimental drugs, its more than that and Emery finds an allure in the danger in finding out what hides behind the murderous eyes of the most lethal man in the dark forces.
The hold this book has on me is unreal. From start to finish I was thoroughly sucked in. I’m so happy this was a dual POV, getting in to both of their heads not only kept the plot moving seamlessly but also showed the character development from both of their perspectives. The more you learn about both Cameron and Emery, the more you will feel drawn to them, they are raw and tortured, but have a beauty about them that’s dark and all consuming.
I will be completely honest, This is the first military romance I’ve read. I am very much a high fantasy and sci-fi reader. I dibble dabble in paranormal here and there as well , but this book caught my eye. Honestly it was the art first, and i was amazed to find out the author is also the artist, I thought that was so cool. Once i saw the cover and then read a bit of what it was about I figured id give it a try as I have been actively trying to broaden my horizons a bit. What i wasn’t expecting was to be so pulled in to this world so fast and not want to put the story down, I read this between school drop offs and work and then any free time I had after work, and even stayed up late to finish it up.
The ending had me tossing my kindle on the bed, in disbelief that I now have to wait to read what happens after that cliffhanger. The good news is book two isn’t to far away. However, the wait feels like forever, because there is no way, no way it doesn’t get even better from there. The chaos that is about to be unleashed will be mind blowing , I can feel it in my bones.
