Katrina Halle
Katrina Van Tassel has been betrothed to her best friend Brom Bones since before she was born. This was told to them at a very young age, It didn’t bother either of them as they truly were best friends and loved each other. One night when the pair of them are teenagers, Brom goes missing. Kat hasn’t seen her best friend in four years, as her betrothed is no longer in Sleepy Hollow, and no one knows where he has vanished to, Kat is enrolled to the Sleepy Hollow Institute. It’s at the Institute that Kat learns that she knows truly very little of herself, her family, the school, and what is going on in Sleepy Hollow. While Kat is discovering her magic may be much stronger and deeper than she thought.
When Kat starts the Institute she meets Professor Ichabod Crane, someone who is also new to the Institute. Together they discover their magic is much more powerful together. There is an invisible bond that ties them together from the start, this bond only grows as they grow closer.
While Crane is being haunted, Murders are happening in Sleepy Hollow, and if that’s not enough confusion…Brom shows back up in Sleepy Hollow, not being able to recall the last four years of his life. Brom has no idea where he was or why he left, all he knows is something isn’t right.
Crane, Kat, and Brom have many questions, and as they search for answers their bonds deepen, and relationships become a bit more complicated.
Diving into the world of Crane and Kat was the perfect spooky season story. You get some vintage Sleepy Hollow vibes, but with a brand-new twist. The story drew me in pretty quickly and kept me interested through the end. This does end on a cliff hanger, however book two is already available so no need to wait to continue on the journey and see what the trio has in store for them, in the book Legend.
This is for a mature audience; there is quite a bit of spice through the whole book. The spice does get a bit on the darker romance side, so be advised before reading. However, for my non spice preferring readers you can totally skip over the spice and still follow along with the story.
There is quite a bit going on in the background of the story as well that starts to come to the forefront towards the end. Katrina Halle did really good at leaving breadcrumbs to follow and start collecting. The ending leads me to think we’re going to get more info about the Institute, the magic surrounding Kat, her mom, and the sisters, also what really happened to her father. We also get an idea that something more is going on with the betrothal of Kat and Brom, and I can’t wait to see what becomes of the two of them.
