A Thorn in Every Heart

Kate King

A Thorn in Every Heart is a stand alone Beauty and the Beast meets Anastasia , romantasy, with a millennial FMC.

Alix is a 29 year old people pleasing millennial trying to make her life work out. She recently lost her job and has been playing her violin in the city to make extra money. One night she returns home earlier than usual, this was due to receiving a call from her mother about her grandmother ( a well known author of a very popular romantasy series ) having a melt down, at a book signing event, that is now plastered all over the internet. When she returns home, her whole world comes crashing down.

Alix flees her nice apartment in the city after she finds her husband cheating on her with her best friend. She finds herself back in Iron Hill, at her grandmothers house to check up on things and feed her cat. She opens her cabinets and fridge to find nothing but pickles, and she hates pickles. Thus, she heads to a dive bar in town to get some food.

A chance meeting at this bar gives her the one thing she’s been wanting, a distraction from her life crashing down around her. Although, It may be a bigger distraction than she bargained for. Alix is in for a wild ride when she starts uncovering some secrets that her grandmother Isabell has been keeping to herself for the last 60 years. Will Alix be able to fix the broken promises that bell made to the beastly King Thorn, or will she doom an entire Kingdom?

Alix is the millennial FMC we all need. She very much is all of us if we were to be thrown in to a world surrounded by Fae , magic and a deep dark family secret. Daemon is one of my new favorite MMC and hits every one of those tropes we all love in a romantasy.

This was one of the first books in a long time that I read with healthy female relationships as well. Aside from the obvious betrayal of her best friend, the bond with Odessa from the start was just perfect. Even the ones she builds with Beatrix and a few other mysterious characters I wont spoil for you.

The book is a stand alone, however the enchanted legacies series are all in the same “world”. I’m excited to Dive in and get my feet wet in book two ( that will make sense later when you read that review, I promise ).
