Scarlett St. Clair
Book one in the Hades x Persephone Saga
Persephone is the Goddess of Spring, however she feels that this is just a title given to her by her mother Demeter. She feels so much less than the other gods and goddesses , not only due to her being young but ever since she was young , flowers wither and die by her touch.
Persephone recently moved to New Athens, where she is disguised as a mortal journalist.
Hades is the god of the underworld with a shady reputation among mortals and gods alike.
In the mortal realm like other gods he makes his name by running a well known club, Nevernight.
Persephone goes to Nevernight by chance with her friend Lexa. Persephone is a curios by nature and a journalist by trade, so when she sees Hades, she wants to get an interview. When she follows Hades , she finds her self in a game of poker. When she looses she finds her self in a contract that she doesn’t think she can fulfill , Persephone must create life in the Underworld or lose her freedom forever.
This series is one of my top favorites of all time, this is one of the series that i will always recommend to any reader looking to get in to historical fantasy or mythology retellings.
This is a modern retelling , so don’t expect to get the same story and the same feel for all the characters. The essence of each god and goddess is there but they are modernized and told in a new light.
The character development through the whole story is amazing. The romance is spicy but it doesn’t consume the whole plot. This is one I’ve read through and listened to on audio book , the re readability is definitely there.
Hades is told in a new light than what you would usually see in movies or previous retellings. Persephone is a little childish at parts , however with that being said shes like 19 and been sheltered her whole life, so…..that tracks.
They both grow each other, the book leaves you wanting more and feeling like there is a little left out, and thats because there is Hades side of the story in game of fate!
The whole series is fantastic, the way its written so you get Persephone’s POV in the touch of darkness books and then Hades POV in the game of fate books is really fun.
