To start off the artwork is absolutely stunning.
There are pages in here that i would frame and hang on my wall.
I love the friendship between the future queen kristi and her lady in waiting lucia. A good comparison is like the friendship between the two FMCs in princess and the frog. The friendship between the two of them is so cute and pure. you can tell that they truly do love eachother.
Then you get big scarry looking magical armor man, and every one presumes he has no feelings or thoughts. In comes lucia who can see beyond his outer shell and can tell there is more than meets the eye.
Lucia her self is more than meets the eye.
The story keeps building and creating more of a world around itself. The characters are bright and loveable. Lucia is very relatable, she wants more than what she is , but wants to be grateful for what she has. She is gifted in ways beyond others can see. Will her new friend the kingdom mage understand her full potential? Will she find out what makes the Armor tick? will we find out what started the war that has every one so scare of magic and fae? How did Quinn find out about the suit, and why do they want it so bad? I have so many questions.
Also, Baynard is one of my favorite characters, theres not once scene hes in where i wasnt giggling ( think of Flynn Ryder but with more flair ). The banter between him and Norrix is top notch, more so towards the last 2/3rds of the book.
This light and very cute story really will resonate with those who feel different and that they may not belong. They grow in to a found family and accept each other. I really cant wait to read more. I can see all the story lines starting to line up and how they will start to create an even bigger more complex story and character growth.
Thank you Netgalley and Clarkson Potter/Ten Speed Press for providing me an ARC for an honest review
